Tournament Overview
One of Spain’s best regarded and largest soccer tournaments, the 26th annual Donosti Cup takes place in the stunning northern coastal city of San Sebastian. Expecting about 400 teams representing 29 countries, a strong representation of Spain’s top youth clubs and with a spectacular opening ceremony of 28,000 participants, the Donosti Cup is undoubtedly one of the most exciting summer tournaments offered.
Tournament Format
Groups of 4 teams, 1st Phase: League System (1 match/day). Final Phase: Play off - 1st & 2nd of the group: Champions League. 3rd & 4th of the group: Consolation Series. Minimum guaranteed 4 matches per team, Artificial turf and natural grass fields. 11 a-side in A, B, C, F and G categories, 7 a-side in D, E, and H categories. It is permitted to use a player in several categories. For this, it is necessary to ask to the tournament organisation an special permit. This player has to be on the participant lists and has to certify his/her age. In no case, it is permitted to use a player in several teams of the same category. Special rule for US and English teams playing in B19, B16, G19 and G16 categories. Players born after the 1st of August of the previous year to the category will be able to play. It is strictly forbidden to use aluminium studs in the fields of artificial grass. 11-a-side rules - a team can register a maximum of 18 players. A maximum of 5 substitutions including the one of the goalkeeper is allowed. A subsituted player may no reenter the match. 7-a-side rules - 2 players can be used in categories B12 and B10. A maximum of 5 substitutions including one of the goalkeepers is allowed. A substituted player may re-enter the match.
Tournament Facilities
The tournament is played at 12 different locations, each having seated areas for spectators to watch the games. All games are played on artificial grass except at Anoeta Stadium. The tournament is also played at Real Sociedads training facilities, one of the prestigous teams of La Liga. Real Sociedad’s training facilities have professional team’s traininig field, 5 natural grass fields, artificial grass field, youth level’s developing center and many other top quality services.
Tournament & Leisure Activities
Unlimited activities include aquarium visits, funfair, boat excursions, swimming at Concha Bay, museums, casinos, local sightseeing, stadium visits and more! The town of San Sebastian is the tourist centre for the Basque Country, on the north Spanish coast, a short drive from the border with France. Set in a stunning location on the Bay of Biscay and surrounded by green mountains, from here you can swim in Concha Bay; cross to Santa Clara island and enjoy the local tourist attractions.
